PENNIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Pennie and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (7/13) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Pennie Best Guess for Breed: Retriever and hound mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of May 2025 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 42 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment. Special Adoption Considerations: Pennie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. But at the top of her wish list - well, she's an experienced dog well out of the puppy yips and knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof.
