Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). vcanimalservices Dakota needs out of the shelter to learn how beautiful life can be!!! This 1.5 y/o cattle dog mix arrived at the shelter with her sister, Windy, both very fearful. We can SEE how badly Dakota wants to trust people and dogs. Where she used to press herself into corners and hide, sheâs starting to approach us for greetings on her own! However, the shelter is no environment for a scared herding dog to come into her own. We are looking for an adopter, foster, or rescue for Dakota who will show her the love and patience she deserves. ?? She does not snap or bite, sheâs just afraid but allows herself to be leashed and collared! Adopters should come visit Dakota at 600 Aviation Drive in Camarillo, CA. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
