Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Petunia has a heart as large as her spirit. She's a sweet soul, radiating warmth and kindness, eager to share her love with everyone she meets. She is playful and loves other dogs and walks well on a leash without pulling. She is friendly with people and is always up for hugs. Petunia is an all-around great girl, her personality a blend of all the traits that make a pet the perfect companion. Petunia is heartworm positive and has started the treatment that the AWL will provide for her and follow through until she is heartworm negative. Her wish would be to have a family to give her lots of love and attention as she goes through the treatment. She's looking for a forever home, a place where she can share her love, playfulness, and cuddles. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
