Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shar Pei / Mixed. Hello, my name is Zoro and I am one happy guy! Are you going to go to the bedroom, kitchen, or garage? I’ll go with you! I’m ALWAYS interested in what you are doing. I like to play with my plush toys, tennis balls, and toys with treats inside. I’m even pretty good at playing fetch! I am eager to please and very food motivated, so I love working on my training when treats are involved. I know how to sit, lay down, lay on my side, and shake. I don’t do some of them perfectly yet, but I just need more practice. I am house broken, walk well on a leash (but I would like to chase bunnies or squirrels so I pull sometimes), and don’t mind spending time in my crate when my foster family is away. I am very friendly and like to meet people and dogs. I am good with the kids in my foster home ages 13 and 17. My foster home doesn’t have a fenced in yard, but I don’t mind as long as we go for lots of walks! I promise I am a good boy that would love to find my forever home! Zoro was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. More questions? Read our FAQs here: 4p4l/faqs/ Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed. A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs. Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive. From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - .science/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639

Breed overview
Overview:
The Lab Pei is a fascinating hybrid breed, blending the distinct traits of the Chinese Shar-Pei and the Labrador Retriever. Originating from designer breed programs, these dogs were developed to combine the Shar-Pei's unique appearance with the Labrador's renowned temperament. Physically, Lab Peis are typically medium-to-large, inheriting a range of features; some may exhibit the Shar-Pei's characteristic wrinkles and a broader muzzle, while others lean more towards the Lab's sleek coat and expressive eyes. Their coat can vary in texture and color, often short to medium in length. Temperamentally, they are generally intelligent, loyal, and affectionate, though early socialization and training are crucial due to potential Shar-Pei stubbornness. They are often good with families that can provide consistent interaction and exercise, but their energy levels can make them less suitable for small apartment living without ample outdoor activity. Health-wise, they may be prone to conditions affecting both parent breeds, including hip and elbow dysplasia, certain skin issues, and eye problems like entropion, making regular veterinary check-ups essential.
