Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hi there, I’m Auggie — and even though my story started out rough, I’m writing a new chapter full of hope, healing, and tail wags. I came from a place where I didn’t get the care or kindness every dog deserves. Life was hard for a while, but I’ve come such a long way. I’m now safe at the shelter, getting stronger every day, and finally learning what it feels like to be loved. And let me tell you — I love it. Despite everything, I’m still the happiest boy. I greet every new person with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart. I’ve got a gentle, sweet demeanor that makes me a favorite around here, and I get along wonderfully with other dogs too. I’m playful, curious, and always up for a walk or cuddle. I’m also completely house trained and very good on leash — I really enjoy getting out and exploring the world by your side. The staff says I have a special spark — the kind that shines even brighter because of how far I’ve come. I’m on the mend and ready for the next part of my journey: finding a forever home where I can keep healing, growing, and loving with all my heart. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
