Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Here comes puppy perfection — meet Artis! This young puppy loves cuddling on the couch just as much as she enjoys going for a long hike in the woods! When Artis first came to the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center, the world was a scary place for her, but now that she has graduated from our program, she has stepped into her happiest puppy-self! She would love to go to a home that will continue to work on her confidence and exposing her to the new and wonderful things in the world, and with some praise along the way too! Fortunately, Artis is highly motivated by food and affection, so her adopters can use these things to build her confidence in new places. Artis loves people and wants nothing more to cuddle up or roll on her back and get a belly rub. When she isn’t snuggled up with a human friend, she likes to keep her mind active and her body busy. Whether it’s playing with other dog friends, going on a hike with human friends or learning new fun tricks and playing training games, she is down for whatever activity you have planned! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
