Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Located: Moyock, NC Hi my name is Maddie! I am a sweet, loving 10 yrs young girl. I was adopted from SGSR about 7 yrs ago but sadly my dad passed away. So now I am back to find my forever family. My foster dad lives in Moyock, NC and I like staying here and living with my foster family and foster siblings! I truly love my bestie Blanton. Whenever Blanton goes out, I get sas that he isn’t there with me. My foster dad can tell you more…Maddie mostly enjoys the company of males. I think this is due to the last foster being a single male and he was her world. She does get along with females but must be slowly introduced to them. Her favorite treats are dried beef lungs although she enjoys all other treats also. She is crate trained and occasionally gets the opportunity to sleep in bed with me. She bounces from the cool floor to the bed but mostly prefers the floor. She is not a fan of thunderstorms. The thunder jacket seems and being close to me seems to help with the anxiety. We are working on keeping her calm during the storms and are learning daily what makes her comfortable. She occasionally goes on rides with me to the local coffee trailer and gets a pup cup. Maddie is loved by the owner and her husband. However, if she gets startled, she will be vocal and let me know. The way to calm her is to separate her from the environment, loading up in the car, going for a ride and changing scenery. Maddie is a very loving dog and follows me all over the house and is lying at my feet at the moment seeking solitude from the storms. It seems to calm her swaddled in the thunder coat and lying at my feet. If you think Maddie would be great for your family please fill out an application at .southeastgermanshepherdrescue! Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrtreasurergmail .

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
