Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Introducing Mila, a 2 year old female German Shepherd mix, who was pulled from the Houston pound about 6 months ago to be trained as a service dog. The owner’s circumstances changed soon after, and a Good Samaritan took her in. She loves people. Very attentive and sweet. She is high energy so requires an active lifestyle, and likely should be around older kids. Mila loves hugs but can be a bit much for small humans! She’s pretty darned good on leash and very treat motivated!! She socializes well with other dogs, but prefers submissive or calm playmates. She doesn’t show any signs of destructive behavior and loves following rules. If a human is paying attention to her, Mila is all ears. She’s a sweet couch cuddle bug. Can you help us find this sweet girl a forever home?? If you or someone you know is interested, send us an email at infoscoutshonor and we will connect you with her foster!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
