Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Shepherd / Mixed. Roy Roy is estimated to be a 2.5 year old hound shepherd mix who weighs 60 pounds. He's been to multiple events and at least one dogs day out. We learned about Roy so far: Loves rolling in the grass and basking in the sunshine He’s great with other dogs Has no resource guarding, shares toys and treats with no problem Loves giving kisses and jumping up to say hello Unsure about baths, but he was a good sport He pulls a little on the leash but he seems eager to learn At the shelter he does keep a very clean kennel so he’s believed to be potty trained Ride well in the car Scared of cows Roy is such a sweet soul who just needs a loving forever home to call his own. Come meet him—you just might fall in love!! Daviess County It Takes A Village No-Kill Rescue 2620 Hwy 81 Owensboro, KY 42301 Phone Number: 270-685-8275 Email: infoitvrescue itvrescue/adopt/

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
