Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Meet Carmen! Carmen came to the Behavioral Rehabilitation Center from a local shelter where she showed a lot of fear. Since then, this sweet and spirited girl has learned life is all about fun! Whether Carmen is chasing tennis balls, splashing in streams on a hike or cozying up after a long day of adventure, she just knows how to have a good time. Carmen’s one true love, though? Treats! This foodie is happy to work for anything edible, even dry kibble, which makes training a breeze. She’s already learned to load up in the car, settle in a crate and is picking up new skills every day. Carmen can be nervous in new environments and with unfamiliar people, so she may need a little time and space to feel safe. But with patience and gentle support, she’s shown she can warm up and let her sweet, playful personality shine through. She’s done well with other dogs when given thoughtful introductions and when her canine friends can read her cues. Carmen is also learning that staying close on walks can be a very good thing — especially when treats are involved! If you’re looking for a hiking buddy with a silly streak and a big heart, and you understand that building trust takes time, Carmen might be the paw-fect match. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
