Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog DOB: 6/2013 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: large Color(s): white/tan merle Description: Hi, I'm Daisy, aka, Daisy Mae, a Catahoula Leopard Dog with a rare breed feature, a 'glass eye', meaning my blue eye is the lightest of blues of the breed, almost milky blue. Then of course I also have a brown eye! I am very friendly with people and most dogs. I am very affectionate and would love to snuggle at your feet or next to you while you watch TV or take a nice walk with you. I am best as an only dog as I am a food resource guarder with other dogs. I am under treatment for chronic anemia and I take medication for it. I may also need occasional blood tests. I lost my home with my 3 ‘siblings’ when our owner got sick and then sadly passed away after we were boarded at CARL for over a year. I’d love to be in a loving home to make up for lost time. The Catahoula Leopard Dog is a striking and intelligent breed, originating in the southern United States, particularly Louisiana, where they were bred as versatile working dogs. Their most distinctive physical feature is their "leopard" spotted coat, which comes in a stunning array of colors and patterns, often accompanied by captivating "cracked" or "glass" eyes. These medium-to-large dogs possess a strong, muscular build, reflecting their heritage as agile hunters and herders. Temperamentally, Catahoulas are known for being independent, alert, and protective, yet also deeply loyal to their families. They thrive on having a "job" to do and require significant mental and physical stimulation, making them unsuitable for apartment living and best suited for active families with experience handling strong-willed dogs. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of a predisposition to deafness (especially in dogs with excessive white markings) and hip dysplasia. Proper socialization and consistent training from a young age are crucial for a well-adjusted Catahoula.
