Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Roxy is about 2 yrs. old, weighs 35 lbs. and is fully vetted. She was originally thrown over someone’s fence and left to fend for herself. Fortunately she was rescued by a good samaritan who has been trying to find her an adoptive home ever since. In the meantime, Roxy is being boarded (in a private home not a facility) while waiting for her forever person or family. Roxy is a very energetic, playful, good natured girl who just wants to have fun! She gets along better with bigger dogs than smaller ones. Her energy can be a bit overwhelming for the little guys but big dogs love her! If you’re interested in knowing more about her, please call Cheryl at (786) 214-0553.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
