Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Meet Harper! She came into the shelter with a stray we named LeeAnn. Harper was initially shy, but she is coming out of her shell and enjoys her walks and getting the zoomies in the play yard. She is a small dog, weighing in at only 25 pounds. We believe she has some sort of herding breed in her genetic makeup. We tested her in the cat room and she was s cared of the cats. She would need a very slow introduction to cats in a household and lots of supervision. Harper appears to be house trained.. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
