Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 600. Star is a young pup with a playful, gentle spirit. She may be a bit shy at first, but once she feels safe, her goofy, affectionate side shines through! Whether it's cuddling on the couch, splashing in water, or chasing her tail, Star will bring a smile to your face every day. She does great with adults, kids, and other dogs – her tail wags nonstop when she has someone to play with or snuggle. She’s curious about chickens (okay, she really wants to chase them), so a chicken-free home or lots of training on how to interact with chickens would be best. Star is still learning about the world, and she adapts quickly. She’s quiet most of the time, but might bark briefly when other dogs do or when settling into her kennel. Otherwise, she's content to soak up your love and attention. If you're looking for a sweet, silly, water-loving companion who’s ready to grow with you, Star just might be your perfect match. Star is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 06/14/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 4:30pm and 8pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. *Rescue puppies are notorious for losing their birth certificates before entering our rescue. We cannot guarantee the breed or size they will be full grown.* If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
