Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Colby is a 2-year-old male Black Lab mix who must be neutered before adoption. He was abandoned in someone's yard and brought to the shelter. Colby is black with white markings; and he weighs 44 pounds. He is friendly but appears to be afraid of men. In fact, the person who brought Colby in shared he is easily frightened but warms up quickly once you gain his trust. He has been in a home with other dogs; but it is suggested you bring your dog in for a meet and greet before adoption. Colby is crate trained and house trained. This guy is so ready for a fenced yard, some kids to play with, and a family to love him! Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
