Dog Breed: Unknown breed. She’s a sweet pup who lives up to her name — meet Cookie Dough! She is as sugary-sweet as a fresh batch of the real thing. Cookie Dough adores being with people and has quickly become a staff favorite for her cuddly nature. When Cookie Dough first arrived at the Behavioral Rehabilitation Center, she struggled to engage with the world around her. But with time, patience and a whole lot of love, she’s begun to step into her own and discover all her favorite things — like hiking, curling up in the car for a ride and, most importantly, snuggling with her favorite humans. Cookie is always up for an adventure, whether it’s with people or other pups! She’d love a home with a dog friend or regular access to a dog-friendly park to keep her social side thriving. While she’s made incredible progress, she can still be fearful of new people, especially in tight or unfamiliar spaces. A family willing to go slow and help her feel safe, especially during the first few weeks, will be key to her continued success. Cookie Dough is also polishing up her basic doggie skills and would thrive with an adopter who is excited to continue her reward-based training and keep up with her energetic side. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
