Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Meet Ridge! Ridge looks to be a Hound mix with those long ears! He is 37 lbs right now, but should be closer to 50 lbs. He is about 6-8 months old. He is a rambunctious, clumsy, floppy big puppy. Ridge loves affection (hugs & kisses) from his foster mom. He does well with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. We would not recommend a home with felines. Ridge would do well in a home with children since he has puppy energy and loves to play with toys. He would also do fine in an active adult home where he gets plenty of attention. He is not an apartment dog. He will need a yard with a high fence (6ft or higher) and should not be left unattended when he is in the yard. He's a long legged boy that could easily jump a 4ft fence. Ridge was rescued in Texas after a good Samaritan witnessed him and 3 other pups being dumped on the side of a busy highway. It is believed that all of the dogs are siblings even though each of them look very different from each other. If you think Ridge would be a good fit in your family, please apply to adopt him to set up an Meet & Greet .northstarpets/adopt/

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
