Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Dinky is a 3-year-old male Shepherd (possibly St. Bernard) mix who must be neutered before adoption. He was found as a stray in a city neighborhood; and no owner came to claim him. Dinky's coat is brown with black highlights; and he has a bit of white on his chest. Dinky weighs 60 pounds so he is considered to be a large adult dog. He can make the cutest facial expressions; and loves to cock his head when he hears an unusual sound. Dinky is curious about everything; and he appears to be a smart dog. He would be good with children and other dogs. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
