Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Peter! This handsome pup is 5 months old and already weighs 45 pounds—so he’s likely to grow into a big, lovable dog. Peter is a friendly and affectionate boy who may take a moment to warm up to new people, but once he does, he’s all about snuggles and attention. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and especially loves playing with his foster sister. Peter has also been living with cats in his foster home and has done great with them! Peter enjoys toys, chasing anything you throw, and just being a playful pup. He’s making excellent progress with house training as long as he’s kept on a consistent schedule. He’s also crate trained—spending time in his crate during the day and sleeping peacefully through the night. Like many puppies, Peter is still learning the ropes. He’s working on keeping all four paws on the ground when excited and avoiding things he’s not supposed to get into, so he’ll need a family who’s ready to continue his training with patience and love. This sweet boy is ready to find his forever home—could it be with you? Applicationspawsacrosspittsburgh/adopt Peter is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm, flea&tick prevention, neutered and microchipped. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
