Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Meet Bleu! When Bleu arrived at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation , it didn’t take him long to discover the joys of being a people dog. These days, he’s all about pets, cuddles and quality time with his favorite humans. Bleu is the definition of a cuddle bug and is looking for a committed adopter who can offer him the patience, love and the support he needs to step into himself. While Bleu can be a little hesitant in new places or with unfamiliar people, he warms up beautifully with time. Once he does, his playful, affectionate side shines through! He loves romping in the yard and soaking up scratches like it’s his job. Bleu is a great mix of playful and independent — he can entertain himself, both in and out of his crate, but he’s happiest snuggled up with his people. Bleu is still working on fun tricks and cues, so he’d love an adopter who enjoys bonding through reward-based training. He is also working on his social skills with other dogs. While he can be a bit awkward during play, he’s eager to learn and would benefit from continued socialization with the right canine pals. Bleu would thrive in a home that understands new experiences can be a little scary at first, but with consistency and care, he’s sure to blossom into the loyal, zoomie-loving, snuggle-giving companion you’ve been looking for. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
