Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Louise and her sister Thelma were on the run in Lake City FL until the local Animal Control caught up to them. Since the local shelter is already full, they reached out to MAD Rescue knowing they would not have a good outcome otherwise. Louise is a petite malinois (45lbs) who is good with dogs, cats, kids, and adults! She is a super sweet and friendly girl who would make an amazing family dog! She is not high drive or high energy and is more than content with cuddling up next to you on the couch! Better yet, the way to this girl’s heart is food and attention! Give her both and you’re her new BFF! Louise had two surgeries on her left front leg to repair an old injury while with MAD Rescue. While she is fully recovered from her surgeries and currently participating in PT, Louise will likely continue to require supplements for her joints. Due to this, Louise won’t ever be a candidate for high intensity activities/dog sports. Louise is a professional clinger, so a home where she isn’t alone often or can come to work with you would be ideal! She currently goes to work with her foster and is loved by everyone she meets! But Louise is more than just a pretty face, she also excels at using her nose! Louise would likely be a great starter dog for someone interested in mantrailing or nose work! Located in northeast Florida (but can travel and is great in the car!) 2 year old female malinois, 45lbs Vaccinated and spayed Good with other dogs Great with cats! Low prey drive but loves toys like flirt poles Treats are the way to her heart! LOVES people (and kids) - she’s never met a stranger! Super affectionate even with the vet! (Bonds extra well with her person!) No resource guarding Walks good on a leash and knows basic commands Started nosework and did great! Potty trained and non-destructive in the home Struggles with being left alone - not ideal for a home where she will be left home alone often All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and 6 month subscription. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
