Please contact Chandler Jaffe (chandler.jaffeluckydoganimalrescue) for more information about this pet. sweet pup looking for a home! DEMIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Demie Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/Wirehaired Terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 7 months as of October 2025 SEX: Female Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 38.4 lbs as of 10/5/25 Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! She currently lives with kids and is doing well! Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Demie would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Demie is Looking For: Hiya! I'm Demie! My littermates, Dax, Dallas, Dylan, Dixie and Diana have packed their bags and found their forever homes - now it's my turn!! I'm looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. What do you say? Do you have room in your heart for me? What My Foster Says About Me: Demie is a very sweet and SMART girl! She's friendly to everyone she meets. Demie is doing a great job with training and is learning the basics - she aims to please. She loves being with humans and other dogs, but is also happy to play independently! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
