Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). GIBBS - 11 years old, 50 pounds, sweet, easy going, adult home Gibbs is an 11 year old senior recently surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. He is a cuddler and a licker. This is, in fact, how we met! He came up to meet me when I entered the playgroup yard, sniffed my hand at my side and a lick immediately followed! Gibbs met a handful of dogs in shelter playgroup and ran around like a champ, especially following one little girl whom he seemed to take to. She would acknowledge him and allow him to sniff, which he did appropriately and then they would trot around, mostly him following her. *Please note we supervise constantly and choose our dogs specifically. He enjoys sleeping in bed with his people and going for walks. Gibbs is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel. Come by the shelter to meet this experienced and sweet experienced boy!

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
