Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Meet Piper - a very special pocket-sized pup looking for an equally special forever home to call her own! Piper's previous adopters described her as a lover of walks, and also said that "she's so happy all the time!" among many other rave reviews. This girl is full of playful energy and always up for an adventure where she is able to explore her new environment at her own pace. And then after she's gotten her zoomies out or a game of stuffy-toss, she is happy to nap right on top of you—or whichever angle allows for the most closeness! At her core, Piper is a very snuggly gal who just wants to be around her people. In addition to a glowing review from her former adopter, she has many adoring fans at the shelter and has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite! While Piper has a close bond with her favorite people, she can be nervous at first and takes some time to warm up to new friends. She is looking for someone who has the patience to allow Piper to find comfort at her own pace and who is willing to go slow when introducing her to new people! Piper's ideal home will have someone who enjoys training and who has a flexible schedule that enables them to be home often, at least initially, since she can feel a bit nervous about being home alone, especially in a new home. Piper is very smart, treat and food-motivated, already knows "sit," "down," and "come," and is eager to please and learn even more! Piper is also mostly housebroken. Her favorite things? Peanut butter-filled Kongs and snuggling up with her beloved stuffies—and people! Piper was previously in foster care after being found as a stray, and then, most recently, spent some time in an adoptive home living with another dog. After experiencing some challenges with coexisting with them over the last few months, Piper is now on the search for a patient, pet-free home that is able to continue working on training with her. This sweet girl is a delightful mix of sweet and spunky, and she’s learning and growing into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. If you are able to help with this next chapter of Piper's journey, please submit your adoption application or email us at adoptionsphillypaws to make a big impact on a small(ish) pup! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
