Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 350.00. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston. Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system. To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters. Our adoption fee varies by dog. We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only. A FTA contract is required. HW+ Three days ago, we drove to Navasota to pick up eight dogs from what we can only describe as a breeder "dump." The woman who had them passed away. Her elderly husband struggled to care for them. What we walked into was heartbreaking. They were in horrible condition – Severe skin infections Painful ear infections Nails so overgrown they curled into their pads Two are heartworm positive All needed to be spayed/neutered - Complete Several required full mouth extractions (FME) due to chronic dental neglect Some came to us with zero teeth All are frightened, traumatized, and confused Their suffering is real. Their recovery will be long. Sadly, this baby is heartworm positive. We pay for treatment. He is available for FOSTER or FOSTER-to-ADOPT only. He is missing an eye. He will not go to a home with an inground pool due to his visual impairment.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
