Description
Dog Breed: West Highland White Terrier Westie (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Please contact RLa for more information about this pet. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Wasabi is an 8 year old male Westie who weighs in at 19 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $400. If you are still interested, please read more below. Don't let his name fool you, this distinguished young man is sweet as can be! Wasabi would be the perfect addition to any home and is a very go with the flow dog. He has spent some time with 3 young children and did well. He gets along with other dogs (can be a little food reactive so we recommend separating from other dogs when its dinner time) and rarely ever barks. In his foster home Wasabi discovered the dog in the mirror and is very entertained looking for him. Wasabi sleeps in his pen with access to his crate and does great! He has had a few accidents while adjusting to his new home but settled back into going potty outside quickly. Wasabi would be the perfect apartment dog - he enjoys sleeping the day away! He is working on being comfortable on a leash, he will walk on one but certainly makes his own path. Wasabi is excited to hear from you and looks forward to finding his forever home! Wasabi is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and neutered. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
