Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Casper is a handsome 5-year-old mixed breed with a gentle soul and a playful spirit. Neutered and full of potential, he’s an active, enthusiastic boy who just needs the right person to help him feel safe and secure. While Casper can be skittish around new people at first, once he’s had time to decompress and get comfortable, his sweet and affectionate nature truly shines. Casper would thrive in a calm, patient home where he would be the only pet and have the space and support to settle in at his own pace. A home without small children would be ideal, as he’s still working on building confidence and trust. Though he is partially house trained, he would benefit from continued training and a dedicated person willing to guide him with consistency and love. We’re posting Casper as a courtesy for another local dog rescue in hopes of giving him the extra exposure he deserves. He’s currently being cared for at Best Friends Pet Hotel in Chestnut Ridge, NJ, where he’s waiting for his chance to start fresh with a family that understands his needs and is ready to give him the forever home he’s been waiting for. This is a courtesy post for Garden State Utopia. If you think you could be that special someone for Casper, call 201-889-0711 for more information or to set up a visit. With time, patience, and love, this sweet boy will make a loyal and loving companion. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
