Description
Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). Meet Peaches, a sweet and resilient 53 lb hound who has known more hardship than a dog should ever endure. While we may not know her exact age, we estimate she’s a middle-aged adult, who’s seen more than her fair share of life’s struggles. She’s had many litters in the past and may have even lived with a family indoors at some point because it’s clear that her heart is filled with love, even if she’s never had a forever home to call her own. Peaches was unexpectedly dumped in Kentucky where the owner of the property did interact with her a bit, but she was still left to live outdoors, surviving in harsh conditions with little human care. Peaches is now thriving in her cozy foster home and ready to leave the past behind. Despite her past, Peaches is a gentle soul who gets along wonderfully with other dogs. All she wants now is a chance to feel safe, loved, and cherished. Peaches doesn't seem to have any medical conditions at all -- we are thrilled that she is so happy and active -- however she is requiring at some point treatment for heartworm. We will be determining with our vets the best way to proceed with this super loving and appreciative dog. If you may not be the one to adopt Peaches, any amount in sponsorship donations would help so much with her upcoming medical treatments. But if you think Peaches could be the perfect companion for you, please consider applying to adopt her at peace4paws/adoption-application. She truly deserves a second chance at life because she's not ready to give up. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
