Colby | 4-Year-Old Chihuahua | A Sweet, Sensitive Soul Looking for His Safe Haven Colby is a charming 10-pound Chihuahua mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality. He’s full of adorable contradictions — calm, cuddly, sweet, and playful with his foster mom, yet shy or nervous with new people until he feels safe. Once he knows you, he’s affectionate, loyal, and totally devoted. Colby thrives on routine and predictability. He’s looking for a quiet home where he can continue to decompress and be his best self — ideally with someone who understands that a dog with a rocky past just needs a little patience and structure to thrive. Colby is fully house-trained and uses a doggie door in his foster home — he hasn’t had a single accident! (That said, as with any dog, occasional accidents can happen during transitions to a new environment). He doesn’t enjoy being crated, but he’s a perfect angel when left alone in the kitchen with access to the backyard. His foster gradually built up his comfort with short absences, and he’s handled being home alone for 4–6 hours beautifully. Colby walks wonderfully on leash and absolutely loves his daily walks — he’d happily go for miles! On days when walks are short, he’ll zoom around the yard to burn off energy in the cutest way. He’s motivated by affection and treats (especially Greenies and training rewards), and while he hasn’t shown interest in toys yet, he’s smart, eager to please, and learns quickly. His signature move is an adorable "sit up" pose — like a little bunny — that he’ll hold as long as treats are in play. He loves belly rubs, will rest his head on your lap, and soaks up gentle attention from his trusted person. Colby would do best with a single person or couple (no children or other pets) who can offer him patience, understanding, and a quiet home. Someone who works from home or is retired would be ideal — he loves being near his person. Colby has been through a lot, but he’s a truly wonderful little dog who is loving, intelligent, and easy to have around. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a big heart and lots of love to give, Colby may be the perfect match for you. Submit an application today and give this special little guy the forever home he deserves. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along.
