Update 9.3.25 Meet Lulu – A Gentle Soul Looking for Her Safe Place Lulu is a tenderhearted, quiet girl who’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. She’s had a rough start and is understandably cautious around new people, especially men, but with time, patience, and lots of love, she’s beginning to open up and show her sweet personality. Lulu prefers the comfort of routine and takes her time to warm up to new surroundings. She’s most comfortable going outside first thing in the morning and just before bedtime. During the day, she needs a little encouragement (and maybe a few treats!) to head outdoors. Once outside, though, she truly blossoms — she loves exploring the yard, going for walks, and running through the grass. She’s even reliable off-leash on quiet trails, staying close and checking in often, though she may seek shelter in tall grass if she gets spooked. She currently relies heavily on her foster mom for comfort and security, and is still slowly warming up to her foster dad. When left at home, Lulu settles easily into her crate and has done well being alone for up to six hours. When her foster mom returns, she greets her with tail wags and excitement. If it’s her foster dad, she’s still uncertain, sometimes shaking or retreating to her safe spot — but progress is happening, one day at a time. Lulu is cautious but not aggressive, and her confidence has already started to grow. She’ll bark when someone new comes to the door or if something feels unfamiliar — like a hat on indoors! But she no longer trembles when visitors arrive, and while she won’t approach them yet, she quietly observes and takes her time. Her foster family is also working through some digestive issues. Lulu arrived with loose stools, likely from stress and diet. She’s doing much better on a simple diet of chicken, rice, and pumpkin. They're transitioning her slowly to a limited-ingredient, single-protein kibble. Now spayed, Lulu has also shown a marked improvement in her comfort around other dogs, especially since her foster family's other dog, Alfie, has been adopted. She may benefit from a calm, confident canine companion or could thrive as the only dog in a patient, loving home. Lulu needs a special someone — or a family — who can offer consistency, kindness, and the time she needs to fully come out of her shell. She’s a quiet presence, a work in progress, and a truly rewarding companion for someone who understands that trust is earned slowly, with love.
