Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Charlotte, MI DOB: 12/20/2019 Meet Leia – A Lovely Great Dane Looking for a Quiet Home Leia is a 6-year-old spayed Great Dane who has been cherished and well-cared for her entire life. Her vet records are immaculate—something rarely seen—and she's in excellent health. She does have a docked tail due to a previous case of happy tail, and a unique eyelid on her left eye that the vet has confirmed requires no intervention. Leia has spent her life with one loving owner, who is now away from home more often and wants the best for her. She currently lives with a male Dane and does well with other dogs, though she tends to be nervous around new ones and would do best with calm canine companions—no hyper puppies, please. She hasn’t been tested with cats and would be most comfortable in a home with older children rather than toddlers, simply due to her age and preference for a peaceful environment. While Leia may bark when strangers visit, she warms up with a little time and patience. She is fully house trained, enjoys attention, and thrives when her person is around. Apartment living isn't suitable due to her vocal nature—she’s best suited to a house with a calm, stable routine. Leia is available as a foster or a foster-to-adopt. If you're home often and have the patience to let her adjust at her own pace, she might just be your perfect companion. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
