Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (medium coat). My adoption fee will be waived from June 24 - 29 as part of the AMERICA RUNS ON DOGGOS SUMMER RUFF-FRESHER EVENT !!! Meet Dexter, a gentle, sensitive boy whos looking for a calm, understanding home where he can truly thrive. Loud noises and unfamiliar faces can make Dexter a bit nervous, so hell do best with a patient adopter who can offer him reassurance and a quiet space to settle in at his own pace. Once comfortable, Dexter shows his sweet, affectionate side. Dexter also has some ongoing skin issues that will require consistent care and a close partnership with a vet. An adopter whos experienced or willing to learn about his medical needs will be key to helping him feel comfortable and healthy. If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs. Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog thats a good match! Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) theyre interested in - and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
