Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). Chip is an adorable 1 1/2 year-old, 10 pound Yorkie mix. Chip is all terrier and an active, athletic little guy He is quick and will dart for an open door, so his adoptive home needs to be prepared to manage a young dog and around outside doorways. When Chip came to us, he was unsure but learned to trust his foster mother and other women quickly; however, he is slower to warm up to men. Chip’s new owner will need patience to let him decompress on his own time. Chip doesn’t mind being crated and is good at entertaining himself with toys. Like most terriers, Chip will bark when there is something to bark about. He would be a great candidate for someone who wants to do clicker training and a good companion for a walker. Chip is a dog who you need to keep busy or he will figure out how to do that himself. The ideal home for Chip would be someone with experience dealing with unsure dogs and understands going slow and moving at Chip’s comfort level, and wants to bond with a dog through training and enrichment activities. Chip can be inappropriate when he meets new dogs, but he was found running at large with another small dog with whom he gets along nicely. They are not a bonded pair. Chip's coat is coarse, which means low maintenance and low-to-no shed. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptionsgmail. There is an application process and adoption fee. WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be at least 4 feet with gaps no larger than 1 1/4 inch and attached to the home. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing), it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business days. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
