Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. They say cats have nine lives, but Chauncey is lucky to be getting a second chance at life after being scheduled for euthanasia just before he was rescued so he could find his new forever home and family. Chauncey is a 4-year-old mixed breed boy who has a gentle demeanor that suits him well as he searches for a place to call home. His loving owners had to surrender him when they had to relocate without him. He is a gentle, medium-sized dog at 48 pounds and is easy to walk as he already walks well on a lead. Chauncey is comfortable with dogs and children. It is not known whether he enjoys the company of cats. Chauncy is working on his house and crate training. Although he is already comfortable on a leash, regular practice will be good for him. Rescue dogs can have accidents as they adapt to a new home so regular potty breaks with positive reinforcement will be beneficial. If crate training is planned, Chauncey deserves a crate that permits him to turn around easily and lie down. Crates must be warm welcoming places and must not be used for punishment. Chauncey has been a well-loved family friend and companion who just needs that same kind of love and attention to settle in and enjoy family and friends once again. * Please keep in mind when considering adoption, dogs thrive on structure and routine. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
