Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Terrier / Mixed. Meet charming Katniss! This sweet girl is a four-year-old schnauzer mix. She is fully grown at 15 pounds. Katniss is looking for a home of her own, where the odds will always be in her favor! Katniss has a medium energy level. She is equally happy to play in the backyard as she is to curl up on the couch. She is a great mix between outdoor lover and cuddle buddy! Katniss gets along well with other dogs and children. She would do well in a home with one or both already in residence. It is unknown how she would do with cats since she has not been introduced to them since coming into rescue. Katniss is working on house, crate and leash training. She is a smart pup who is sure to pick these important skills up quickly with the patience and consistency of her new family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
