Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever. This is Hunter, a blue nose pit/ lab mix about to be 3 y/o on August 20th! He loves dentley's bones and going on trips! He isn't friendly with other male dogs but is friendly with other female dogs! He would be great in just a 2 dog household and even better if it is just him! We are unsure how he is with toddlers but older children he should be fine with. He doesn't like his ears touched too much and he doesn't like being picked up... but loves cuddles, belly rubs and walks! He is also e-collar trained but still follows basic commands without the e-collar! If you feel your home might be the right place for this wonderful dog, the place to start is with the adoption application found at .dfwrescueme/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Hunter is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so custody and ongoing care are provided by the foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
