Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Meet Avril! Avril is an adorable petite 2 year old hound mix, weighing about 35 pounds. Avril is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She’s friendly to everyone- people, kids, dogs and even cats! Avril is currently being fostered by one of our volunteers who says she’s the perfect dog- calm, quiet and well behaved in the house but has plenty of energy for outdoor activities. She enjoys going for walks (and walks beautifully on the leash), going for car rides, and is an all around wonderful companion! Avril’s calm and loving nature, along with her very manageable size make her a perfect fit for just about any family! If you are looking for a snuggle and walking buddy- Avril would love to meet you! Avril is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. If you’d like to meet this special girl, please fill out an application on our website at rescueridge . If your application is a possible match, a volunteer will get back to you to schedule a meet.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
