Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed. Meet Holly, a sweet and gentle soul who’s finally getting her chance at the life she deserves. Holly is just 4 years old and weighs around 25 lbs—but her story runs much deeper than her age or size. She and her sister spent the first 9 months of their lives surviving on the streets of Albania before being rescued and brought to a shelter. There, they waited for three long years—with no family, no soft beds, no one coming for them. In Albania, resources and adopters are scarce, and amazing dogs like Holly often get overlooked. We knew they needed a hero, so we stepped in to give them a shot here in the U.S. Despite everything she’s been through, Holly is incredibly loving and kind. She adores people and gets along beautifully with other dogs. She can be adopted on her own or with her sister (they do love each other!), but if separated, Holly will need a dog friend in the home to help her feel secure and confident as she adjusts. Holly is healthy, spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She’s been waiting a long time. Apply to adopt Holly at EHRDOGS.ORG

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
