Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (medium coat). Meet Bindi the pint sized herding breed pup. Bindi arrived as a stray so her background is a bit of an unknown. She is still very much a work in progress â gaining confidence about her surroundings and new people by the day. Once she warms up, she enjoys interacting with people. Bindi has been observed to be a bit inexperienced and fearful of dogs since her arrival at the Shelter. She would thrive in a home with a dog savvy adopter as the only dog. Bindiâs adopters may want to work with a qualified behavior consultant to do low pressure, thoughtful behavior modification to help Bindi learn that not all dogs are spooky. Dog parks and high traffic dog areas are likely to cause Bindi stress at this time so they should be avoided. Bindi's adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to âLeave No One Behind Fundâ â designed to adopterâs eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelterâs care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter. Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
