Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Adoption Fee: 550. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Carol Aulick Dakota is a super sweet puppy currently located in Texas. He loves playing in the rain and chasing toys. He is so upbeat and possesses a " joie de vivre " making it is impossible to be in a bad mood when you are with him. He is a very sensitive boy. When one of the foster family's children was running a fever, he curled up to spoon her and didn't leave her until the fever broke. He loves his family. He is good with new people. He is a little cautious at first but will warm up quickly. He is good with other dogs once he is properly introduced. As you can see from the photos, he adores the resident dog and loves to cuddle with him. He has gotten in the pool to go after his toys. He is very agile and enjoys climbing on things so his foster family started working on teaching 'place' and 'off' in addition to other basic obedience. He is housetrained and crate trained. He is not too sure about the car yet but is getting more used to it as he practices. Dakota has enormous potential and could be a great training partner in nose work, obedience, or possibly agility. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
