Description
Dog Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Leonard is an 11-month-old male Yellow Lab mix who must be neutered before adoption. He was found as a stray in Prattville and no owner showed up to claim him. Leonard has a gorgeous tan/yellow coat with white markings. He also has a docked tail; and the most gorgeous eyes you have ever seen. Leonard weighs 35 pounds and we don't think he will get much bigger. This sweet guy is active, playful, and would be great in a home with children and other dogs. Leonard is just a great all around dog and some lucky adopter is going to get a great new friend! Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
