Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Gus Gus is a bubbly, social, sweet puppy who wants to love on everyone he meets. He's friendly humans and dogs of all sizes; he has not yet met any children or cats. Gus Gus LOVES to play, with dogs, his humans, or toys! Gus Gus weighs in right around 20 lbs. with a long body and short legs, and the world's cutest (™) underbite. Gus Gus is a smart boy who is learning new things about the world every day! He's learning basic skills / commands and how to be brave through new experiences (like what the heck are these stairs and how does a guy with little legs get up and down them?!). He knows to potty outside, and as long as he is given the opportunity to go outside regularly to do his business, hasn't had any potty training issues. He sleeps easily in his crate and through the night, though would obviously rather snuggle in with you on the couch, if you'll have him. Gus Gus walks on a leash like a dream, and loves to be outside. Like most puppies, Gus Gus is still learning about the importance of keeping all four paws on the ground and not jumping up (which is hard to do when he wants to love you so much!) and keeping his puppy teeth to himself, but he's making great progress! Gus Gus will make an amazing, playful, and spirited addition to his forever family! This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
