Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Please contact Michelle (dogzinneedyahoo) for more information about this pet. Meet Odie – The Big Puppy with a Big Heart! Odie is a 6-month-old Shepherd mix with a lovable personality and a whole lot of puppy love to give! Weighing in at 75 pounds and still growing (likely to reach around 125 pounds), Odie is a big boy with an even bigger heart. He was originally rescued by a wonderful family living on a farm, but he needs to be rehomed due to his strong prey drive—he’s just a little *too* interested in the chickens and piglets also living on the farm. Odie is house-trained, leash-trained, neutered, and has had his first round of vaccines. He’s also great with people, loves kids, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Odie is still a puppy and would benefit from continued training, especially to help curb his habit of jumping up when excited. He knows some basic obedience and is eager to learn. Odie would thrive in an active home with space to run. If you're looking for a loyal, playful companion who’s ready to grow into your next best friend, Odie might just be the perfect fit! Currently located in Vista, CA. To learn more about Odie, contact Michelle at dogzinneedyahoo or (760) 390-8973

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
