Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Troy, TX DOB: 10/21/2021 Dexter is a classic Velcro Dane—wherever you are, that’s exactly where he wants to be. This gentle, goofy merle boy is happiest when he’s close to his people, ideally with at least one paw touching you. He’s affectionate, a little silly, and always down for a snuggle, especially if it means squeezing himself into a chair he definitely doesn’t fit in—just because his doodle siblings can. He has a moderate energy level and is perfectly content with a few backyard zoomies and some indoor playtime. He loves to romp and wrestle with the other dogs in his foster home and will often drop into a full play bow with his tail wagging and his butt in the air to invite them to join the fun. That said, he’s also great at settling down and relaxing when it’s time to rest. Dexter is housetrained, crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and rides calmly in the car. He’s well-mannered overall, though he does have one little vice—he’s a world-class counter surfer and won’t hesitate to swipe anything tasty (or interesting) within reach. He’s smart, though, and corrects easily with gentle reminders. He currently lives with several other dogs—including two Great Danes and three large doodles—and gets along well with everyone, though he’s still a bit unsure around one of the intact males. He’s also been around cats and didn’t seem bothered by them. Dexter has done beautifully with visiting grandkids ranging from toddlers to preteens and is respectful and gentle with them. He’s a little unsure in new situations and can be sensitive to loud noises or sudden changes, often showing it through a slight shake in his hind legs. He also seems to have a fear of being left outside, so he prefers to do his business quickly and get right back in with his people. Once he settles in, he’s a total lovebug—sweet, snuggly, and completely devoted. Dexter would thrive in a home where people are around most of the time. He could easily join a household with other dogs or be your one-and-only, as long as he gets plenty of attention and companionship. He takes a little time to warm up, but once he does, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without him.
