Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Looking for a compact little tank of joy to add to your life? Meet Dougie, a brindle blockhead with a heart of gold and a PhD in cuddling. This 10/10 certified Good Boy is the full package: equal parts playful goofball and loyal snuggle bug. At about a 7 on the energy scale, Dougie is always up for a romp in the yard or a good game of tug, but he also knows when it’s time to crash on the couch and binge-watch your favorite shows (he doesn’t mind reruns—he just wants to be close). He’s great in the crate (white noise helps him snooze like a champ), and excellent on leash, making him a dream to walk around the neighborhood or explore the backyard. While his house training is still a work in progress, he’s a smart cookie who just needs some consistency and patience. Sudden loud noises can startle him, but he recovers quickly with reassurance from his people. Dougie is dog- and kid-friendly, and we think he’d be just fine with cats too—he’s a lover, not a fighter. On walks around the property, he sticks close by, always keeping one eye on his favorite human. If you’re looking for a dog who’s the perfect blend of playful and affectionate, Dougie is your guy. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
