Description

Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250.00. Online Adoption Application Bandit is a playful loving 9 month old hound mix. Bandit and his siblings were found in small groups, over the course of a week, in rural town. They were sick, many of them with demodex mange (non-contagious, typically seen when animals are severely neglected and their immune systems are depleted), skinny, and terrified. They stayed in that shelter for a month, getting treatment, before ending up on their euthanasia list. We pulled them and they were then, still terrified, transported to Florida. When they got out of the car, they leaned on each other for safety and comfort, and tried to hide in the nearest bush anytime outside for the first 3 days. But after those 3 days, they have done nothing but FLOURISH!!! It is very clear they had never seen the inside of a home before as every new sound introduced, things we take for granted, was interesting or scary…but even when afraid, they are all still very curious. It is clear they want to be loved by people and they try very hard to push past new intimidating things, hoping for love, comfort, and praise by the people around them. Each of these five puppies have distinctive personalities which, is extremely unique given how long they’ve been together and how dependent they are on each other. These are arguably our favorite litter of puppies we’ve ever fostered and, since we’ve been doing this for over 15 years, that’s saying something! My favorite time of day is when they’ve gone potty and you or another family come out of your room and they see you for the first time, they come quickly with so much puppy wiggling and their body language exudes they are smiling and so happy to see you! Bandit is the tallest of the bunch, though Bubbles may have him beat this week, but also the most slender. He has basset hound feet but a lot of his qualities, physical and personality, lean towards a treeing walker coonhound. He even points outside with all the great smells in the air! His coat is so silky! He’s the only one that uses his paws occasionally (gently) and barks when he’s insistent on something (there’s that treeing)! He is another great communicator like Frost, but they sound completely differently. He also talks a lot when he plays! He is the king of playtime and always the one instigating the play. He loves to run and chase with his siblings and foster siblings. He worked diligently to win each of his foster brothers over. I really thought there was no hope but he was patient and now he even has our grumpy old man running, wrestling, and playing with him. He loves crinkle toys, balls, and nylabones. He is potentially the most reactive to new noises when they catch him off guard, and will bark to try to protect and scare it away from he and his siblings. He’s a big fan of routine. He likes his crate and knows it equals chew toys, food, nap time or bedtime. He also loves walks and loves to jog on those walks too. He looks athletic and agile, but he’s just as goofy as his brothers. He also loves to watch tv with you at the end of the night! He is crate trained, leash trained, and 90% potty trained. He understands the word “no” and is not destructive by nature. We have found that a walk, even a short one, sometime during the first half of the day has been crucial for his routine and building confidence and content in our home. He has been quick to learn what he can and cannot play with and typically does not go back after you’ve told him no to an item.
