If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ WOLFGANG WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION FOLLOWING HIS NEUTER WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR JULY 10th. Wolfgang is a sweet 4 month old male Terrier mix who weighs in at 14 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $450. If you are still interested, please read more below. If you want a devoted side-kick, Wolfgang is the dog for you! He is playful and smart – he already knows how to sit! He is a Velcro dog and loves to snuggle up close and shower you with love. He does well with other dogs. He has been having a blast chasing his foster brothers in the backyard. He is doing well with both crate training and house training. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered as of 7/10/25. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
