Meet Kai — a lovable little guy with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be your best friend. At just 22 lbs, he's the perfect size for apartment living or a cozy home, and he's always ready to join you on life’s adventures. Kai walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys car rides, and is happiest when he's by your side — whether you’re out for a stroll or curled up on the couch. At home, Kai is a world-class snuggler who loves to be close. He’s also a champion toy destroyer — no stuffed animal stands a chance! While he's generally quiet, he might chime in if other dogs start barking. He gets along with most animals but would secretly love to be your one-and-only. He can coexist with cats, though he does find chasing them a fun (if slightly naughty) pastime. Kai hasn’t been around kids much, but he seems to do well with people who are gentle and respectful. He’s house-trained with a consistent routine and sleeps soundly either in his kennel or snuggled up with his humans. Although he gets a bit anxious when left alone, barking a bit at first, he's learning to trust and settle more each day. Kai does have chronic bronchitis and takes allergy meds to help with his symptoms — and they're working well. Despite this, he’s a joyful, affectionate pup who just wants love and a forever home. Could you be the one to give Kai the life and love he deserves? Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
