Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 500.00. Carnelian found himself in a high kill shelter in West Texas. He is great with other dogs, and people, but cats are unknown. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training to be successful. Carnelian is a young pup with a heart as big as his goofy grin. Affectionate, playful, and full of puppy energy, he’s the kind of dog who greets you like you’ve been gone for days, if you just stepped out for three minutes. This sweet boy loves toys (you’ll be picking up a few each night!), enjoys long walks, and is happiest when he’s with his people. He’s house-trained, does well in his crate after a short protest, and is improving every day on leash. Carnelian is learning “sit” and is eager to keep learning with a patient owner. Carnelian gets along well with other dogs and plays nicely in public, though he sometimes guards toys, treats, or his favorite humans (all are new to him). He’s been great with kids and is adapting wonderfully to city life, handling busy streets and new experiences with curiosity and growing confidence. Carnelian would thrive in a home with a yard to run in and an adopter ready to match his energy and continue his training. Whether he’s zooming around outside or snuggling up after a fun-filled day, Carnelian is an affectionate, loyal companion who will bring joy to a lucky family. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
