Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Lyla, a stray found injured on HWY 99 in Bakersfield, is searching for her forever family. We rescued her with a severe paw laceration and provided immediate care. While awaiting adoption, we discovered Lyla is diabetic. Living on the streets with this condition would have been incredibly difficult, if not impossible. Diabetes significantly impacts her adoption chances, so we are hoping to raise enough funds to cover her insulin for a few months. Lyla is a playful and affectionate dog who will bring joy to your life. She loves to go out for walks but will also gladly cuddle on the couch. If you're up to the challenge and can offer Lyla a loving forever home, please leave a comment or send us a direct message. Excited to find your new family member at Wags and Whiskers? Our pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. Many come from unknown backgrounds, so please consider the 10+ year commitment. Schedule an appointment today! Call 530-895-8888. We don't offer holds; pets can be adopted anytime. Schedule an appt or simply Apply to adopt Applied in the last 6 months? Just call!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
